APC Accuses Fubara Of Initiating Constitutional Crisis In Rivers

The ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has accused the embattled governor of Rivers State, Siminalayi Fubara of been responsible for the crisis witnessed in the State.

The spokesperson for the APC, Felix Morka, said the constitutional crisis experienced in Rivers State was authored and initiated by Governor Fubara.

Speaking on Arise Television’s Morning Show on Saturday, 22 March, 2025, Morka said contrary to analysis tendered by many, Nigeria’s democracy is not crumbling.

“First our democracy is not crumbling, there is nothing crumbling about Nigeria’s democracy. Secondly, there is no constitutional crisis in Nigeria today.

“There was a constitutional crisis in Rivers State up until the declaration of the State of Emergency and that Constitutional crisis was initiated, authored and precipitated by the governor of Rivers State, Governor Fubara.

“I have listened very carefully to a lot of analysts, speakers who have come to your programme and others and I think that, yes, some of them have good intentions but the problem is that they simply chose to gloss over the critical, factual predicate of this crisis,” Morka stated.

He also noted that several people, including analyst, lawyers and public commentators have successfully overlooked the main cause of the crisis that hit the state.

“This is because if you get that wrong, then forever, you will reach a wrong conclusion of what is playing out.

“What happened in Rivers State is that a governor was elected and shortly after his election, this governor sort to take control by replacing the Speaker of the House of Assembly,” he said.

While stating that most governors do this because they want someone who they are comfortable with and can work with as speaker, Morka said Fubara was unfortunate because the lawmakers of the Assembly stood their ground.

He added that when Fubara’s plan failed, he (the governor) went on a rampage to destroy the Rivers Assembly, thereby creating problems for himself.

He said nobody but Fubara is to blame for the problems he is currently facing following his actions in the state.
