Tragedy occurred on the evening of Tuesday, 22 September as an artisan, engaged to clear weeds on the roof of a shopping plaza area of Ehi Road in Aba, Abia State was electrocuted.
It was gathered that the sad incident happened after torrential rain in the city.
It was also gathered the young man, whose identity had not been established at the time of this report, was said to have stepped on a slippery surface on top of the building, causing him to lose his balance before coming into contact with rolls of live wires supplying power to the building.
The incident, it was learnt, caused tension around the shopping centre as many onlookers mourned the unfortunate worker.
According to an eyewitness, who pleaded anonymity, the victim made a loud cry after coming into contact with the live wires, as power supply was on at the time of the incident.
Some residents of the area, who flooded the scene, advised property owners to ensure that high-tension wires were not close to residential and business facilities.
As at the time of filing this report, Abia State government agencies and the Nigeria Police Force were yet to issue statements on the sad development.
