Eight months after the cold-blooded murder of a retired teacher at her Agbaakin Emere residence in the Bode-Olude area of Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital, the state Police Command has recorded a breakthrough in the investigation, with the arrest of the alleged murderer.
Life was snuffed out of the 61-year-old Mrs Adedotun Adeteju Oluwaseun on Friday, 27 February, 2026, after she reportedly returned from a retirement party organised by her colleagues, and her lifeless body discovered in the toilet of her apartment the following day, Saturday, 28 February, 2026
According to a statement issued by the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, Police preliminary findings indicated that the late retired teacher was allegedly strangled and attacked with a machete during an altercation with the suspect.
While the alleged murderer basked in the euphoria of an accomplished mission, little did he know that the law of retribution would catch up with him.
His day of reckoning, according to the Police, was Monday 19 October, 2026, through sustained investigative efforts by operatives of the Homicide Section of the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran.
The suspect, identified as Alhaji Saburi Lateef Ayinde, popularly known as “Oki-Ocean”, was taken into custody, where he is currently singing like a canary bird.
In his confessional statement, he linked the incident to financial dealings with the deceased, claiming that he had entrusted ₦3,450,000 to her for safekeeping, with an understanding that she would lend him ₦1,500,000 towards purchasing another vehicle.
Meanwhile, detectives are working to corroborate his account and establish the full circumstances surrounding the murder.
The state Commissioner of Police, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the investigating officers for their persistence, professionalism and commitment to securing a breakthrough.
Ojajuni reiterated the command’s resolve to pursuing serious crimes through diligent investigation, ensuring accountability and bringing offenders to justice through lawful prosecution.
Stating that the suspect would be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation, the command urged residents to resolve disputes lawfully and promptly report criminal activities, assuring the public that credible information would be acted upon professionally.
