Bauchi State Governor, Senator Bala Abdukadir Mohammed has flagged off the 2026 wet season farming with subsidized fertilizer sales, other farming inputs and presentation of starter packs to trained youths and women in Agribusiness across the state.
This was as the Governor announced the sale of subsidized NPK fertilizer to farmers at N20,000 per bag, instead of the market price of N30,000 across all twenty local government areas.
He declared that agriculture remains the true driver of the State’s economy.
Similarly, the state government flagged off the payment of N500,000 start-up grants to 1,250
trained youth and women to establish sustainable agribusinesses, create jobs and strengthen livelihoods.
Speaking at the launching ceremony ceremony held on Tuesday at in Bununu, Tafawa Balewa Local Government Area, the Governor described the event as a who also announced the commencement of payment of starter packs and grants to trained youths and women in agriculture described the event as a demonstration of his administration’s commitment to making agriculture the engine of prosperity in the state.
According to him, “It is a great pleasure to be here today for the flag-off of the 2026 Wet Season Farming, the launch of our subsidized fertilizer sales program, and the commencement of payment of starter packs and grants to our trained youth and women in agriculture.”
The Governor welcomed farmers from the state’s 20 LGAs, saying they remain the foundation of Bauchi’s economy.
“You are the true drivers of our economy. Every meal in our homes, every market supplied with foodstuff, and every agro-processing enterprise that thrives depends first on your labor and sacrifice,” Mohammed said.
He said agriculture remains central to the state’s development agenda since 2019, and noted that Bauchi is blessed with vast arable land, favorable climate, and hardworking people.
“Our responsibility as a government is to create an enabling environment that allows every farmer to succeed,” he added.
The Governor listed key interventions to include the Bauchi State Agricultural Development Programme (BASDP,) the strengthening of BASAC, the revival of BAPCO, expansion of mechanization, funding for extension services, improved rural roads, irrigation promotion, and grants for youth and women in agribusiness.
“These are not isolated projects. They are components of our integrated vision to transform agriculture from subsistence to commercial production, from poverty to prosperity,” he said.
Addressing rising input costs, Mohammed announced that while the actual cost of fertilizer production stands at N38,000, the state government has approved its sale to farmers at N20,000.
“We understand the financial burden this places on farmers. Rather than allow them to bear it alone, the Bauchi State government has taken decisive action. Adequate quantities of fertilizer have already been made available for this season,” he said.
He said the fertilizer subsidy and the rollout of starter packs and grants show government’s determination to reduce production costs and ensure no genuine farmer is left behind.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, government officials, development partners, and hundreds of farmers from across the state.
The state Commissioner for Agriculture, Dr. Ilyasu Aliyu Gital who described the government’s intervention as commendable, assured that the ministry would effectively supervise the distribution of fertilizer and other inputs to reach the target beneficiaries.
He expressed the ministry’s readiness to implement the laudable programmes aimed at achieving food sufficiency, strengthen the agricultural value chain and promote sustainable economic development across the state.
