The Bauchi State Commissioner for Humanitarian Affairs and Disaster Management, Hajara Yakubu Wanka, has expressed deep sorrow over the death of two cameramen, Kani Ben of Channels Television and Kabiru Ahmed Ilelah of Bauchi State Television, who died after sustaining injuries in a road accident while covering the activities of the North East Development Commission (NEDC).

In a condolence message yesterday, the commissioner described the incident as a painful loss not only to their families but also to the journalism community in Bauchi State and the country at large.

Wanka noted that the late journalists were widely respected for their dedication, courage and professionalism in the discharge of their duties.

According to her, as cameramen, they played a vital role in bringing important events to the public and ensuring that citizens remained informed about developments shaping society. She added that their commitment to duty, even under challenging conditions, reflects the spirit of sacrifice that defines responsible journalism.

The Commissioner extended her condolences to the leadership and members of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Bauchi State Council, as well as to the families, friends and colleagues of the deceased.

She prayed for strength and comfort for those left behind and said the legacy of professionalism and humility demonstrated by the late journalists would continue to inspire media practitioners across Bauchi State and beyond.

Responding, the Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists Bauchi State Council, Comrade Umar Sa’idu, thanked the commissioner for the condolence visit and prayed that Allah rewards her and her team for the gesture.

He described the visit as touching, noting that it reflects the compassion and concern for which the commissioner has always been known for.

The high point of the visit was the formal presentation of a condolence letter personally written and signed by the Commissioner.
