The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, on Wednesday, 5 August, 2026, concluded the week-long activities marking the first anniversary of his administration with the presentation of his one-year scorecard and the unveiling of several people-centred empowerment initiatives aimed at improving education and social welfare within the council area.
The grand finale, held at the Imota LCDA Secretariat, attracted political leaders, traditional rulers, religious leaders, community stakeholders, youth groups, market leaders, party faithful, and residents who gathered to witness the administration’s achievements over the past year and reaffirm its commitment to inclusive governance and sustainable development.
Presenting his scorecard, Hon. Benson highlighted key milestones recorded under his administration across critical sectors, including education, healthcare, road infrastructure, environmental sanitation, youth empowerment, security, agriculture, sports development, and social intervention programmes. He reaffirmed his commitment to delivering the dividends of democracy through the council’s development agenda while appreciating residents for their unwavering support and cooperation.
As part of the anniversary celebration, the council chairman awarded scholarship grants of ₦1 million each to nine Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) students who are qualified indigenes of Imota LCDA to support their academic pursuits. He described education as the most reliable instrument for community transformation and assured beneficiaries that his administration would continue to invest in initiatives that promote academic excellence.
In a further demonstration of his commitment to human capital development, Hon. Benson also approved ₦100,000 scholarship grants for postgraduate students pursuing Master’s degrees, as well as undergraduate students with a minimum Second Class Upper Division and a cumulative grade point average (CGPA) of 3.60 and above.
According to him, investing in education at all levels would produce skilled professionals and future leaders who would contribute meaningfully to the development of Imota LCDA, Lagos State, and Nigeria.
The council also presented bursary awards of ₦50,000 each to 107 undergraduate students from the council area to ease the financial burden of higher education. Beneficiaries expressed appreciation for the gesture, noting that the intervention would support their academic pursuits and encourage them to remain focused on their studies despite prevailing economic challenges.
Beyond education, the Chairman extended financial support of ₦50,000 each to 200 widows and elderly residents, comprising 120 women and 80 men, as part of his administration’s social welfare programme. He noted that caring for vulnerable members of society remains a priority, stressing that governance should be compassionate, inclusive, and responsive to the needs of every segment of the community.
Speaking at the event, His Royal Majesty, Oba (Dr.) Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare-Agoro, CFR, the Ranodu of Imota, Olufoworesete II, commended Hon. Benson for implementing programmes that have positively impacted the lives of residents. He described the administration’s first year as purposeful, people-oriented, and development-driven, urging the chairman to sustain the momentum by initiating more transformative projects and empowerment programmes.
The event also featured goodwill messages from Governing Advisory Council (GAC) leaders in Ikorodu Division: Senator Kingsley Adeseye Ogunlewe and Asiwaju Olorunfunmi Reuben Basorun, who congratulated the Chairman on his successful first year in office. They acknowledged the visible improvements recorded across the council and pledged their continued support for initiatives that promote peace, unity, and socio-economic development.
Others who spoke at the event were: Commissioner I in the Lagos State Civil Service Commission, Alhaji F. O. Lasisi; former Member of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Nurudeen Saka Solaja; and the immediate past Chairman of Imota LCDA, Hon. (Prince) Wasiu Kunle Agoro, among other political leaders, all of whom commended the Benson-led administration for its remarkable achievements within one year.
The event witnessed the presence of the Chairman of Ikorodu West Local Council Development Area, Otunba Sulaimon Kazeem Olanrewaju; the Vice-Chairman of Imota LCDA, Princess Abisoye Omowunmi Jimoh; councillors led by the Leader of the House, Hon. Adeshina Ademola Oluwole; members of the Executive Council led by the Secretary to the Local Government, Alhaji Fagbesan Akeem Muhammed; management staff led by the Council Manager, Alhaji Enitan Nojim; party leaders including Rev. (Dr.) Col. Bolaji Titilola Onafowakan (Rtd), LGA Party Chairman, Hon. Aremo Kamilu Ogunnowo, former party chairman, Hon. Ramoni Akinyemi; LGA party Secretary, Mr. Olowu Mutiu Olanrewaju; and all the Ward Chairmen; the DPO of Imota Divisional Police Station, CSP Babatunde Ogunniyi; among others.
Other dignitaries present at the event includes members of the Ranodu-in-Council, the League of Baales in Imota LCDA, political leaders, the leadership of Community Development Committees (CDC) and Community Development Associations (CDAs), market men and women, religious leaders from the Christian Association of Nigeria (CAN) and the Muslim community, the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), youth organisations, women groups, party faithful, other stakeholders, and residents. They all congratulated the chairman on the successful completion of his first year in office and praised his administration’s commitment to grassroots development, education, and the welfare of the people.
The anniversary celebration concluded on a note of renewed optimism as beneficiaries and residents applauded the administration’s achievements and expressed confidence in its vision for a more prosperous Imota LCDA. Hon. Benson Ayodele assured the people that his administration would remain committed to transparent governance, inclusive development, and policies that improve the quality of life for all residents while building on the successes recorded during its first year in office.
