The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, has commended the Imota Ayayo Development Association of America for its generous donation of office and patient furniture to the General Hospital, Imota, describing the gesture as a significant demonstration of community service and commitment to improving healthcare delivery.
The presentation of the donated items took place on Tuesday, 25 August, 2026, at the premises of the General Hospital, Imota, in the presence of traditional leaders, government officials, healthcare professionals, community leaders and other stakeholders.
Among the dignitaries at the occasion was the Ranodu of Imota, His Royal Majesty, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare Agoro, Olufoworesete II, whose presence underscored the importance of the initiative and the traditional institution’s support for programmes aimed at improving the welfare of residents.
Also present were Rev. Col. (Rtd.) B. T. Onafowokan; Alhaji Fatai Olalekan Lasisi, Commissioner in the Lagos State Civil Service Commission; the Medical Director of General Hospital, Imota, Dr. Adenike Omosun; and other notable community leaders and stakeholders.
The donated items include baby cots, patient chairs, office chairs, tables, waiting-area chairs and other essential hospital furniture. The items are expected to enhance the hospital’s working environment, improve operational efficiency and provide greater comfort and convenience for patients and their caregivers.
Speaking at the occasion, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele expressed appreciation to the Imota Ayayo Development Association of America for remembering its home community and investing in the healthcare sector.
He noted that partnerships between government and community-based organisations, particularly those in the diaspora, remain vital to achieving sustainable development.
The Chairman stated that the intervention would complement government efforts at improving healthcare infrastructure and ensuring that residents have access to a more conducive and functional healthcare environment.
In a further demonstration of his administration’s commitment to compassionate and accessible healthcare, Hon. Benson paid the sum of N875,350 for the medical bills of five indigent patients at the General Hospital, Imota, who are unable to afford their treatment.
The gesture is aimed at ensuring that financial difficulties do not prevent vulnerable residents from accessing or completing essential medical treatment. It further reinforces the administration’s commitment to putting the welfare and wellbeing of residents at the centre of its policies and programmes.
The newly donated baby cots will contribute to creating a more comfortable environment for mothers and children, while the office furniture will assist medical and administrative personnel in carrying out their responsibilities more effectively.
The intervention by the Imota Ayayo Development Association of America also highlights the important role of Imota indigenes in the diaspora in contributing to the development of their ancestral community. Beyond the value of the donated items, the gesture reflects a shared sense of responsibility and commitment to the progress of Imota.
The presence of His Royal Majesty, Oba Mudashiru Ajibade Bakare Agoro, Olufoworesete II, alongside government officials, healthcare professionals and community stakeholders, further demonstrated the collective interest in strengthening healthcare services and improving the quality of life of residents.
