A Chief Magistrate Court in Makurdi presided over by Chief Magistrate Kelvin Mbanongun has remanded six farmers in the Makurdi correctional centre over the alleged killing of a 72-year-old man, Andrew Katseen, in Jato Aka, Kwande local government area of Benue State, reports thegazellenews.com.
The defendants: Ternenge Torkuma, Emmanuel Tersoo, Sesugh Gbuusu, Emmanuel Mvendaga, Saaondo Beeka, and Torkuma Akiighir are facing charges of criminal conspiracy, trespass, and culpable homicide.

Mbanongun declined to take their pleas, citing lack of jurisdiction, and adjourned the case to September 29 for further hearing.
According to the prosecutor, Inspector Godwin Ato, the case was reported on Sunda July 13, 2025 by Tyoyila Katseen at the Adikpo Police Station and later transferred to the State CID. He said the deceased’s wife discovered his lifeless body on Monday, July 14, 2025 in his compound with head injuries and a pestle lying nearby.
Tyoyila alleged that the six suspects and others still at large were responsible for the killing. Police arrested the defendants during investigation and said efforts are ongoing to apprehend additional suspects
