Bloody Sunday In Lagos As Fallen Container Crushes 8 Passengers Of Commercial Bus To Death, One Woman Rescued

It was a gory sight as a fully loaded 20ft container fell on a commercial bus (Danfo) in the Ojuelegba area of Lagos on Sunday, 29 January, 2023.

In a press statement by the Permanent Secretary, Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), Dr Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, said one person was rescued alive.

According to him, the bus was picking passengers when the truck lost control and fell on top of the bus, killing six adults and two children.  

Oke-Osanyintolu said, “upon arriving at the scene, a truck conveying a 20ft container was found to have fallen on a commercial bus”. 

Further investigation revealed that the bus was picking up passengers when the truck lost control,fell over the side of the bridge.

He revealed that a total of eight fatalities were recovered comprising of: three adult males, three adult females, a girl child and a boy child. 

A single adult woman was extricated from the crushed vehicles and has been taken to the Trauma Centre..
