The Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF) has pulled out of the race to host the 2023 Women’s World Cup.
The football federation pulled out just two weeks before the successful bid is announced and according to the federation, it did not sign guarantees necessary to hold the event because of COVID-19 and will now support Colombia’s bid to host the event.
According to a statement by the federation which was posted on the website stated that “economic and fiscal austerity” contributed to the decision.
It added: “In view of the exceptional time experienced by the country and the world, CBF understands the cautious position of the Brazilian Government, and of other public and private partners, which prevented them from formalising the commitments within the time or in the required manner.”
