The family of Omotayo Samuel-Pepple, 49, is devastated and demanding accountability after she was fatally struck by a vehicle while waiting at a bus stop near Abinojii Mikanah and St. Mary’s Road in Winnipeg on Tuesday, 16 September, 2025.

“I would want to know if the driver was impaired, what actually happened. I know the police are still doing their investigation, but we are hoping there will be more information as time goes by,” said her sister, Mary Oloyede, who lives in Toronto.

She said the family got little information and weren’t informed until eight hours after the crash, even though Omotayo was “still conscious” at the scene. At 2:30 a.m., a doctor called to say the situation was critical.

Samuel-Pepple suffered internal injuries, multiple leg fractures, had three surgeries, and died on Thursday, 18 September, 2025, after cardiac arrest.

Samuel-Pepple moved to Canada last year to study Human Resource Management at the University of Manitoba and planned to bring her husband and three children, aged 14, 17, and 21. “Back home… her children and husband are in shock,” Oloyede said, adding their mother is also “not herself, deeply affected and yet to come to terms with it.”

Describing her as kind, nurturing and active in her church, Oloyede said: “I was privileged to have a good person as a sister. Everyone that crossed paths had good stories about her.”

Now, the family wants the driver held responsible and urges anyone with dashcam footage to come forward. “If you could share with it, please, at least I know it’s going to give the immediate family respite to know exactly what happened,” Oloyede pleaded.

Shared Health said emergency staff must focus on patient care first, while police noted that family notifications can be delayed by identity or jurisdiction issues. “Traffic collision investigations can be complex, often requiring scene reconstruction, video analysis, and interviews with witnesses,” police explained.

The family is planning her funeral in Winnipeg and hopes her husband and children can attend.
