The Chief Justice of Nigeria, Justice Kudirat Kekere-Ekun, is billed to deliver a keynote address at the annual conference of The Society for Notaries in Nigeria (TSNP), scheduled to take place on November 19, at the Marriot Hotel, Lagos.
The one-day annual conference themed “Trust, Technology and Trade: Transforming Notarial Practice for Africa’s Future” also lists the President of the Nigeria Bar Association, Mrs. Oyinkansola Badejo-Okusanya, as one of the distinguished guests to attend the occasion.
Also on the roll-call is the President of the International Union of Notaries in Africa, David Figueroa Márquez, who will serve as the Special Guest of Honour.
The event’s hosts are: Chief (Mrs.) Marlies Allan, TSNP’s President & Master of Notaries-In-Council; along with the former Chief Judge of Lagos State, Justice Ayotunde Phillips, who is Society’s patron.
A press statement issued by the conveners stated that the conference is expected to bring together experts from “the judiciary, government, legal profession, academia, industry and technology sectors”, who would be examining “the evolution of notarial practice for fostering trust, digital transformation, and cross-border trade across Africa”.
The highlights of the conference are an induction of new notaries, and “an exclusive black-tie networking and recognition banquet tagged ‘The President’s Dinner’.
The dinner will host senior members of the Bench, Bar, government, diplomatic corps, business leaders, sponsors, and international guests.
The conveners explained that the “dinner will provide an opportunity to celebrate distinguished service, strengthen professional relationships, and reinforce the Society’s vision for the future of notarial practice”.
Participants are expected to produce and adopt a communique on future of notarial practice in Africa, including recommending what should be the acceptable standards for notarial practices in Africa.
Equally, they are to deliberate on how to create a roadmap on “secure electronic notarization” by practitioners in Africa, and how to.use notarial services in “cross-border trade within the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).”
