A Federal High Court in Abuja has issued an order stopping the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) from proceeding with its planned National Convention, scheduled for November 15 and 16 in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The court, led by Justice Peter Lifu, granted an interim injunction following a suit filed by former Jigawa State Governor, Sule Lamido, who alleged he was denied access to the Nomination Form to contest for the position of National Chairman.

According to reports, Lamido claimed that despite fulfilling all requirements and paying the prescribed fees, he was denied access to the Nomination Form, violating his fundamental right to participate in the party’s internal democratic processes.
The court has restrained the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) from recognizing, monitoring, or participating in any activities connected with the convention, pending the hearing and determination of the matter.

This ruling comes less than two weeks after another court, presided over by Justice James Omotosho, stopped the party from going ahead with the elective convention, citing non-compliance with legal requirements.
However, an Oyo State High Court, led by Justice A.L. Akintola, had earlier given the party the green light to proceed with the convention, affirming its legality and directing INEC to monitor and observe the exercise in accordance with relevant electoral laws.
The PDP now faces uncertainty, with the court’s decision leaving the party’s next steps unclear. The matter has been adjourned for hearing on a date to be communicated by the court.
