The Chairman of the Lagos State Universal Basic Education Board, Hon.Wahab Alawiye-King, has been speaking on the alternative programme put on in place by the Board to ensure that pupils in public primary schools in the state continue to receive lectures despite the directive of the state government to shut schools in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak in the state.
The Gazelle News.com reports that the state government had earlier closed down all public, private schools and tertiary institutions in the state in the wake of the Coronavirus outbreak.
On Sunday, 29 March, 2020, the Federal Government announced total lockdown of activities in Lagos and Ogun States as well as the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja.
Alawiye-King told The Gazelle News.com that the Board has introduced a radio broadcast of academic contents aimed at providing a holistic support to public primary school pupils during this period.
“This programme is also aimed at providing immediate educational support and measures to minimize the consequent disruption in order to facilitate continuous learning, especially for the vulnerable in the state,” the SUBEB Chairman explained.
According to him,” The programme is designed to keep the pupils academically engaged in spite of school closure.
“Thus, the interactive radio instruction programme would be aired on two local radio stations: EKO FM 89.7 and Radio Lagos 107.5fm.
“The programme has been carefully designed to make learning fun and engaging for the pupils.  The lessons for pupils in Primary 1 and 2 are “Kokoka and Labe Igi Orombo”  which will be aired from Monday – Thursday at 9:30am – 11:55am on Radio Lagos – 107.5fm.
“Other programmes for pupils in Primary 3, 4, 5 and 6 include: ANIMAL GARDEN, LEARNING IS FUN, LET’S GO LEARNING AND AUNTY BOLA’S WORKSHOP which will be aired from Monday – Thursday between 10.30am to 1pm on Eko FM 89.7.
“As government continues to make frantic effort to tackle the COVID-19 pandemic, we hereby encourage parents and guardians to utilize these platforms to keep their wards productively engaged, monitor their health and keep them home and safe”.
