The Governor of Lagos State, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has ordered the closure of all markets in the state, The Gazelle News.com reports.
The Governor however exempted markets selling essential commodities like medical equipment, foodstuffs and water.
The Governor also announced that both air and land travels into and outside Lagos are also discouraged.
Sanwo-Olu also ordered fast food joints and restaurants to sell only take away packs while eat-in is discouraged.
Governor Sanwo-Olu stated further that open spaces of some public schools currently on Coronavirus-induced holiday would now be used as markets to sell essential commodities.
This order takes effect as from Thursday, 26 March, 2020.
The Governor warned that the state security agencies have been put on alert to fully enforced the order.
The Governor spoke at a press conference in Lagos on Tuesday, 24 March, 2020.
He said, “It is not a total lockdown, we still want people on essential services to go about their normal activities.
“We are trying to de-centralise markets in Lagos. This is why we want to use some of our closed schools as markets, so people can buy food and medicine without going a long distance.
“It is only when you are alive that you can talk about economics and finance.”
