The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission today October 13, 2021 secured the conviction of one Bashir Ibrahim Mohammed before Justice Jamilu Shehu Suleiman of the Kano State High Court on a one count charge of criminal breach of trust.
Trouble started for the convict when the Commission received a petition alleging that he fraudulently obtained the sum of N1,900,000 (One Million, Nine Hundred Thousand Naira) only from the complainant on the pretext of importing furniture for her.
Investigation revealed that the convict was neither into furniture business nor has the capacity to import it.
It was also discovered that the convict converted the money to his personal use.
The charge reads, “that you Mohammed Bashir Ibrahim on or about December 2019 at Kano within the jurisdiction of this Honorable Court, being entrusted with certain property to wit: N1,900,000 ( One Million Nine Hundred Thousand Naira) only belonging to Aisha Ahmed Zuruki, money given to you to purchase and deliver Turkish furniture to her, you did dishonestly misappropriated the sum, commit criminal breach of trust in respect of the said property and you thereby committed an offense contrary to section 311 of the Penal Code Law of Kano State and punishable under section 312 of the same law.”
The defendant pleaded guilty to the charge. Consequently, the prosecution counsel, Micheal Ojo requested the court to convict him accordingly.
Justice Suleiman convicted the defendant and sentenced him to 3 months imprisonment with option of a fine of N50,000.
