
Kano-born billionaire business magnate, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata is dead. He died at the age of 93, after a prolonged illness related to old age.
Multiple reports said the billionaire breathed his last in the early hours of today -suggesting that he may be buried this afternoon, according to Islamic rites.

Deputy National Treasurer of the Nigerian Association of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, Mines and Agriculture (NACCIMA), Uba Tanko Mijinyawa, also confirmed the development in a Facebook post on Saturday, 28 June, 2025.
He said details of the late Dantata’s Muslim funeral prayer (Jana’iza) will be announced in due course.
His message reads: “Inna Lillahi wa’inna ilaihi Raji’un. Allah ya yi wa babanmu Dattijo, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata, rasuwa. Muna addu’a Allah ya jikan sa, ya gafarta masa. Za a sanar da lokacin jana’izarsa.” Translation: “Indeed, we belong to Allah and to Him we shall return. May Allah have mercy on our father and elder, Alhaji Aminu Alhassan Dantata. We pray for his forgiveness. The time of his funeral will be announced.”)
Aminu Alhassan Dantata was born on May 19, 1931. The business mogul was versed in investment, particularly, in the finance, real estate and petroleum sectors. A renowned philanthropist, Dantata spent fortunes in education emancipation, skills acquisition and economic empowerment of the youths.
