A 30-year-old man and his two-year-old son died in a building collapse that occurred in Madabe village in Jigawa State.

The Information Officer, Buji Local Government Council of Jigawa State,  Alhaji Ali Safiyanu, confirmed the  sad development to newsmen in Dutse, the state capital on Monday,12 August, 2024 .

Safiyanu, who  said the 25-year-old mother of the boy survived the incident, added that the surviving mother is responding to treatment at an undisclosed hospital.

According to him, the incident which led to the collapse of the building,  occurred on the night of Sunday, 11 August, 2024 during a heavy downpour.

The Public Relations Officer of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defense Corps (NSCDC,,  in the state, Badaruddeen Tijjani, also confirmed the incident but could not immediately give the names of the deceased and the survivor.

Tijjani said investigation had since commenced into the incident.

Recall that flood wreaked havoc between Thursday, 8 August,  2024 and Sunday, 11 August, 2024 in some villages in the area, displacing about 400 households and destroying about 1,000 farms.

The State Management Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), had already distributed relief items to the displaced persons camped in one of the schools in the area.
