The Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC) has congratulated Professor Tunde Musibau Akanni on his recent investiture as a Fellow of the Society of Peace Studies (SPSP), describing the honour as a well-deserved recognition of his contributions to journalism and conflict-sensitive communication.

In a congratulatory letter dated October 7, 2026 and signed by Yisau A. Adepoju, Head of Department, Administration, on behalf of the Executive Vice Chairman/CEO of the FCCPC, the Commission said Akanni’s recognition was received with “great delight” by its management and staff.

The Commission said the fellowship was a testament to the professor’s “laudable scholarly contributions” to journalism, particularly his sustained commitment to Conflict-Sensitive Journalism and Development Communication.

According to the FCCPC, Professor Akanni has consistently demonstrated passion for a strand of communication practice that promotes sustainable social change and improves the quality of life, particularly in developing countries.

“Given your remarkable track record, therefore, this honour comes as no surprise. It is both timely and richly deserved,” the Commission stated.

The FCCPC expressed confidence that Akanni would continue to make Nigeria and the global academic community proud through his future scholarly and professional engagements.

Professor Akanni is a Professor of Journalism in the Faculty of Communication and Media Studies at Lagos State University (LASU), where he has contributed to teaching, research, curriculum development and postgraduate supervision.

His areas of scholarship include journalism practice, media ethics, development communication, political communication, media and conflict, strategic communication and the impact of artificial intelligence on contemporary media systems.

Before his academic career, Professor Akanni worked extensively in Nigeria’s print media industry, an experience that has continued to inform his scholarship and professional engagement.

He is currently on sabbatical with the FCCPC, where he contributes his expertise to strategic communication, public engagement and institutional communication.

Professor Akanni has also received international academic and professional exposure, including the British Chevening Scholarship and advanced studies at the University of Leicester in the United Kingdom.

He has undertaken additional training in development studies and human rights advocacy.

Beyond the university and public service, Akanni has been involved in initiatives promoting ethical journalism, democratic governance, conflict resolution, media literacy and national development.

He is also a prolific public commentator whose articles and commentaries have appeared in Nigerian newspapers and digital platforms, addressing issues including governance, education, media reform, national security, consumer rights, social cohesion and technological innovation.

The Professor has further served as a trainer and consultant, facilitating capacity-building programmes for universities, government institutions, regulatory agencies, media organisations and civil society groups.

His recognition as a Fellow of the Society of Peace Studies adds to his professional and academic profile, particularly his longstanding advocacy for conflict-sensitive and development-oriented communication.
