The Federal Government has launched the Credit for Laptops, Internet, Connectivity and Knowledge Digital Devices (C.L.I.C.K.D.) Programme, a consumer credit initiative designed to provide Nigerians, particularly young people, with affordable financing for laptops, internet-enabled devices and other essential digital tools.
The programme was unveiled on Tuesday, 21 July, 2026 in Abuja by the Nigerian Consumer Credit Corporation (CREDICORP) in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy.
Implemented in partnership with the Federal Government’s Three Million Technical Talent (3MTT) Programme, the initiative is aimed at deepening digital inclusion, expanding access to technology and equipping Nigerians with the tools required to participate effectively in the digital economy.
The Federal Government said the programme forms part of its broader strategy to democratise access to consumer credit, create economic opportunities and improve the quality of life of Nigerians through responsible borrowing.
The scheme will commence with the financing of locally assembled laptops, while giving priority to indigenous manufacturing as it expands to other digital devices.
Government said the initiative is expected to boost digital inclusion, promote skills development, enhance productivity and strengthen local technology production.
Delivering the keynote address at the launch, the Minister of Communications, Innovation and Digital Economy, Dr. Bosun Tijani, stressed the importance of a functional consumer credit system in driving national development.
He said the administration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is laying the foundation for sustainable economic growth by expanding access to affordable credit, noting that such interventions would stimulate entrepreneurship, create jobs and accelerate digital transformation.
The Minister commended President Tinubu and the Managing Director of CREDICORP for initiating the programme, describing it as a major step towards achieving the administration’s vision of building a one-trillion-dollar economy.
According to him, access to affordable credit enables individuals and businesses to acquire productive assets, improve their livelihoods and contribute meaningfully to national development.
Tijani further stated that the C.L.I.C.K.D. Programme demonstrates the Federal Government’s commitment to leveraging technology and innovative financing models to bridge the digital divide and ensure that more Nigerians benefit from opportunities in the digital economy.
A major highlight of the event was the symbolic presentation of laptop computers to some of the programme’s beneficiaries by the minister.
Earlier, the Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of CREDICORP, Uzoma Nwagba, announced that the corporation would provide 1,000 locally assembled laptops to eligible beneficiaries under the programme across the country.
He explained that the initiative is designed to equip young Nigerians with the digital tools required to improve learning, develop relevant technology skills and participate more effectively in the digital economy.
Nwagba noted that the use of locally assembled laptops aligns with the Federal Government’s commitment to promoting indigenous manufacturing, supporting local technology companies and creating employment opportunities within Nigeria’s digital ecosystem.
He disclosed that the first phase of the rollout commenced in Abuja, where 77 beneficiaries received their laptops, while the remaining devices would be distributed to qualified fellows in other states in phases.
According to him, the intervention will help bridge Nigeria’s digital divide by expanding access to technology, increasing participation in digital skills training, opening up remote work opportunities and empowering thousands of young Nigerians to benefit from technology-driven economic activities.
He added that the initiative forms part of CREDICORP’s broader mandate to expand access to affordable consumer credit and ensure that more Nigerians have the digital tools needed to thrive in an increasingly technology-driven world.
