The Kano State Fire Service has rescued 16 people, including three unconscious children, after a residential building collapsed in the Dan Dishe area of Kwanar Yashi, Fagge Local Government Area of the state.
The incident occurred in the early hours of Saturday, 8 August, 2026 when the building, said to measure about 20 by 30 feet, suddenly caved in.
The Service’s spokesperson, Saminu Abdullahi, confirmed the incident in a statement, disclosing that an emergency call was received at about 4.32am from a staff member, Aminu Sani Warure, who alerted the emergency response unit about the collapse.
He said firefighters were immediately mobilised from the headquarters to the scene, where the rescue team searched through the debris and successfully brought out 16 trapped victims, including three unconscious children identified as five-year-old Affan Yusuf, seven-year-old Hassana Yusuf and nine-month-old Ummulkursum Yusuf.
Abdullahi said the exact cause of the collapse had not been established, noting that investigations were underway.
The fire service urged residents to take building safety measures seriously, particularly during the rainy season, and advised the public to observe necessary precautions to reduce the risk of similar incidents.
