The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu has said that education remains a priority of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, reports thegazellenews.com
She stated this when she received the winner of the 46th King Abdulaziz Qur’anic Recitation Competition, Maryam Ibrahim Dan’Azumi at the State House, Abuja.
The Governor of Gombe State, Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya and his wife, Dr Asma’u Inuwa Yahaya in company of the winner’s father and other state government officials were at the State House.
The First Lady saluted the father for giving Maryam sound upbringing which has translated into the glory for the nation, Gombe State, her family and herself in particular.
“You are a pride to the girl child. You are a pride to the girl child. You are showing your generation the way which to go and that is hard work, pursued with divine wisdom and God has crowned your efforts.
“You have brought joy to us, showing Nigeria to the world again, about her worth and the good that can come from her,” the First Lady said.
Senator Oluremi Tinubu said Maryam’s achievement showed the value of hard work, discipline and dedication, and urged her to embrace mentorship as she advances in her education.
The First Lady also announced her willingness to support Maryam’s pursuit of a Master’s degree. She also presented her with a N20 million reward.
The Gombe State Governor, Alhaji Mohammed Inuwa Yahaya explained that 19 year old Maryam had won Qur’anic Recitation Competitions right from the local government to the state and then national levels to qualify for the International one she won.
Governor Inuwa Yahaya also described Maryam’s achievement as a source of pride to Gombe State and Nigeria.
Responding, Maryam thanked the First Lady for the honour and said participating in the Saudi Arabian competition gave her the opportunity to meet participants from around the world. She expressed hope that her achievement would inspire other young Nigerians to work harder and excel.
Maryam emerged winner in the women’s category of the 46th King Abdulaziz International Qur’anic Competition in Saudi Arabia, which attracted participants from 133 countries.
