The membership of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) continued to shrink as an aide to Ifeanyi Okowa, 2023 Vice Presidential candidate of the party, has dumped the party with his followers, reports thegazellenews.com.
Monoyo Edon, who served as Special Assistant on Media and Publicity to Governor Okowa has resigned his membership of the party.

A chairmanship aspirant for Warei South Local Government Area, Edon in a letter addressed to the chairman of Obodo/Ubeji 1 ward alleged that the PDP has adopted an uncanny method of rewarding members of the party.
Edon also alleged that the party has become laid back in accepting new ideas or innovations to would hinder his growth as an ambitions politician.
“I write to officially notify the party of my decision to rescind my membership of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) with party registration number 294/04/2022.
“I have been a loyal card-carrying member since 2021 and contributed actively to the election which delivered His Excellency, Sheriff F.O Oborevwori as Governor of Delta State and the other 4 elective positions (completing 5/5 in Ward 1) in the 2023 general elections,”Edon stated.
He also noted that he joined the PDP in 2020 with the hope that the party represents everything which the young people of Delta State needed for progress.
He said, “However, during and after the contest, I became more familiar with the culture of the party which quite frankly has an uncanny reward system and unaccommodating to new progressive ideas, particularly in Warri South.
“It is not in my character to remain in a place averse to my progress, contribution and aspiration,”he said.
He further commended leaders of the party including its former ward secretary and all those who he had the opportunity to work with during his time in the PDP.
