The Federal Government’s decision to appoint Fuji star Wasiu Ayinde Marshal, popularly known as KWAM 1, as an ambassador for airport security has resulted in condemnations, fury and backlash by Nigerians across the social media, reports thegazellenews.com.
The outrage came after the singer was involved in a drama at Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, where he was caught on camera attempting to block a ValueJet aircraft from taxing to its takeoff position on 5 August 2025.
Thegazellenews.com recalled that while the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) had initially imposed an indefinite flight ban on KWAM 1 and filed a criminal complaint against him, Aviation Minister, Festus Keyamo announced a review of the sanctions, citing the singer’s public apology and remorse.
“In the case of KWAM 1, the NCAA is to reduce his flight ban to a one-month period. FAAN will also work with the music star with a view to engaging him as an ambassador for proper airport security protocol going forward,” Keyamo said.
The Minister’s decision, however, did not go down well with the views of majority of Nigerians online, with many of them expressing anger over what they see as selective and biased justice.
Maduabuchi (@Cletuzs) tweeted: “One offend them give am ambassador, the other one them offend am yet she land for kirikiri. The LAPO and NEPO story is explained in Nigeria well.”
Similarly, Not CORNfused (@DoitRight4Naija) mocked the government’s approach: “Apparently everyone who had an altercation in the airport in the last 2 weeks get a free pass this time including the young lady. What should we expect next? Dinner for the current Kirikiri inmates since they now have voting rights? Do we still have a criminal justice system?”
Samuel (@SamuelIse3) expressed disbelief: “Chai Nigeria is a country where everybody is deceiving everybody”.
Others condemned what they called a reward for bad behavior. Marvelous Akpere (@marvtridon) commented: “Bad behaviour getting rewarded as usual. This is Nigeria.”
Mr Jugular (@Nattychemical) warned: “A country that rewards lawlessness is a failed nation.”
Enugu 1st Son (@IfeanyiDeclan) quipped: “It is an FAAN Ambassador. Like FAAN like K1.”
Ken Uttih (@KenUttih) accused the government of disrespecting the public: “This is a joke. This government must be a joke. They keep doing things like and daring the people… The worst amongst us get federal appointment and national honours. This cannot continue.”
Some users called for equal treatment for other passengers, including Comfort Emmanson, who was remanded at Kirikiri for unruly conduct on an Ibom Air flight. @tsf_udom tweeted: “COMFORT, whenever you make it out of Kirikiri, your LAWYERS know what to do. The shame and silence the Nigerian government thinks it can impose on the youth must be resisted by the youth themselves.”
However, criticism remained dominant, with Last Mugu (@GodstimeAtas) adding: “Nigerians reward rascality over morality. Moral lesson: to make it in Nigeria you have to do away with every form of morality.”
Social media users mocked the idea of a ‘bad-behavior ambassador.’ GREATNESS INCREASE (@Odunolaspeaks) said: “Is it not better now that people start stopping planes from flying so that they all can become ambassadors. I trust Nigerians all they can do is to rant online.”
Ice (@suleaaron) reminded followers: “Nothing new here. Nairamarley was once an NDLEA ambassador.”
Omedike (@UzoechiOny55452) lamented: “Nigerians has a way of rewarding people with questionable character instead of holding them accountable for their actions.”
The hashtag trending around the story captured frustration, disbelief, and ridicule from across the country, reflecting growing concern about law enforcement and government accountability.
