Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu, has unveiled new electrification projects in the Gbaji-Seme and Owode-Apa areas of Badagry, a move aimed at improving power supply to thousands of homes, shops and businesses across the corridor.

The projects were unveiled on Wednesday, 11 March ,2026 in Badagry through the Governor’s Deputy, Kadri Obafemi Hamzat, who represented him at the ceremony organised by the state Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources.
The electrification works were carried out to strengthen electricity distribution in the affected communities and, consequently, support economic activities along the border corridor.

Speaking at the event, Hamzat said the newly completed installations would significantly enhance power distribution across the Gbaji-Seme and Owode-Apa axis, adding that residents and businesses in the communities would now enjoy more stable electricity supply.
“The electrification works we are commissioning today will significantly strengthen power distribution across the Gbaji–Seme and Owode–Apa corridor, and thousands of homes, shops and businesses will now benefit from improved and more stable electricity supply,” he said.

He further explained that the project goes beyond the provision of infrastructure, noting that it would restore confidence and, in turn, create new opportunities for communities that had waited for years to experience improved electricity supply.
According to him, Badagry remains a historically significant town and an important gateway into Lagos State and Nigeria.
He added that the corridor holds strong economic potential for trade and cross-border commerce because it serves as a strategic link to the Republic of Benin and the wider West African region.
Consequently, Hamzat stressed that access to reliable electricity is essential for unlocking the full economic potential of the area and supporting the growth of commerce, small businesses and local industries.
He also stated that the electrification initiative aligns with the administration’s THEMES+ Development Agenda, particularly its commitment to expanding energy access and building resilient infrastructure capable of supporting economic growth across the state.
In addition, the deputy governor noted that the recent inauguration of the board of the Lagos State Electricity Regulatory Commission would enable the state to regulate and expand electricity supply more effectively.
“What this project truly represents is opportunity for traders to extend their business hours, for artisans and small manufacturers to increase productivity, for schools and healthcare facilities to function more effectively, and for families to enjoy a better quality of life,” he said.

Hamzat commended the Lagos State Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources and the Lagos State Electrification Agency for their role in delivering the project, describing the intervention as a reflection of the administration’s commitment to grassroots development.
He equally appreciated the support of the Lagos State House of Assembly, as well as lawmakers representing Badagry Constituencies I and II, for their advocacy for the electrification of the affected communities.
The Governor congratulated residents of Gbaji, Seme, Owode, Apa and neighbouring settlements on the completion of the project and urged them to protect the facilities from vandalism so as to ensure the sustainability of the improved power supply.
