General Hospital Somolu, Partners Screen 400 Lagosians in Free Medical Outreach

About 400 Lagos residents have benefited from free medical screening, treatment, medication and health insurance enrolment during a two-day medical outreach organised by General Hospital Somolu and its partners.

The programme was held on Monday,  10 August and Tuesday 11 August, 2026 starting at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, before ending at General Hospital Somolu, where beneficiaries were screened and treated for prostate cancer, blood pressure, diabetes, cholesterol, malaria and mental health conditions.

The outreach was organised in collaboration with the Lagos State Ministry of Health, Lagos State Health Management Agency (LASHMA), Global Health Charity and Training Foundation, National Orthopaedic Hospital Igbobi (NOHIL), DBA Comprehensive Health Charity and Capacity Health Foundation.

The Medical Director/Chief Executive Officer of General Hospital Somolu, Dr Adesina Ayodele, represented by the Deputy Medical Director, Dr Nathaniel Olugbenga Oja, expressed appreciation to the sponsors, partners and health personnel for their contribution to the exercise.

Oja urged beneficiaries who require further medical attention to return to the hospital for follow-up care, assuring them that the hospital would continue to provide the necessary support.

The lead partner, Dr Adebayo Akintobi of Global Health Charity and Training Foundation, assured participants that all services provided during the outreach were free and safe.

He encouraged the beneficiaries to speak openly with the doctors and ask questions about their health concerns to enable them receive appropriate care.

In addition to the medical services, beneficiaries received free medication and were enrolled in the LASHMA health insurance scheme to facilitate continued access to healthcare.

The first phase of the outreach was held at the National Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, on August 10, while the programme concluded at General Hospital Somolu on August 11.

The organisers said the initiative was aimed at promoting early detection and treatment while bringing essential healthcare services closer to residents.
