The Edo State Police Command has arrested a driver to a Special Adviser to the Edo State Governor, Monday Okpebholo, over alleged sexual assault of the governor’s aide’s 15-year-old daughter.

The Edo State Police Command Public Relations Officer, Moses Yamu, confirmed the arrest of the suspect, identified as 50-year-old Mohammed Ihuenuma, to journalists on Thursday, 23 May, 2025 in Benin City, the state capital

Yamu, who said the investigation is ongoing and that the suspect would be charged to court after the investigation, just as he also advised members of the public to always report cases of rape, indecent assault, and defilement to the police for immediate action.
The state police-image maker added that the state Commissioner of Police, Monday Agbonika, has zero tolerance for cases associated with Gender-Based Violence (GBV).

It was gathered that the suspect was arrested following a tip-off from the father of the victim, just as it was alleged that the suspect often looked for an opportunity to fiddle with the teenager, who lives with her parents, whenever he came to the house on an errand.
A source alleged that the driver has touched the girl at different times in an indecent manner, trying to entice her, just as it was further learnt that after several incidents, the girl reported the matter to her mother, who eventually informed her father.
The father later reported the matter to the police, leading to the arrest of the suspect.
