A group, United Area Club of Ikorodu (UAC), has endorsed the re-election bid of Sen. Tokunbo Abiru for Lagos East Senatorial District and other candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the forthcoming general elections.

The group, made up of numerous clubs in Ikorodu division, endorsed the candidate at a ceremony held at Ita-elewa mini-stadium, on Thursday, 16 February, 2023, in Ikorodu, Lagos State.

The Co-ordinator, Mr Olanrewaju Olabinjo, who applauded the leadership of the ruling party in the state and division, said Abiru deserved to be returned to the National Assembly.

“We will rally round and ensure that people come out to vote for all APC candidates because the party has done tremendously well at the state level and district.

“We will mobilise our people to vote and return Abiru, Rep. Babjimi Benson and those contesting for the seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly,” he said.

Olabinjo, however, urged Abiru to carry the people, especially the youth along.

The coordinator, while urging the youth not to engage in violence or attack one another, also appealed to Abiru to use his office to provide maximum security before, during and after the elections.

On his part, the senator promised to maintain people-oriented programmes and promote human capacity development in line with his manifesto.

He highlighted some of his achievements such as construction of 40-bed Hospital and provision of 200 solar-powered street lights at the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH), Ikorodu.

Abiru also listed the building of a 40-bedroom hospital at Isiu, 24 blocks of classrooms at Borokini in Aga area as well as rehabilitation of Yidi praying ground to international standard.

The senator said that he also gave COVID-19 relief grants to widows and the vulnerable on monthly basis during the pandemic in all the 16 Local Government Areas of the district, with N300 million as  Constituency Intervention Revolving Loan.

He said that he had also facilitated the rehabilitation of Papa market and built 960-capacity stadium in Epe as well as rehabilitated Igbobi College in Somolu, while also creating Senator Abiru Innovation Lab (SAIL), where youth were being trained on latest technologyin the district.

Abiru said he had also carried out a lot of skilled acquisition and empowerment training for all categories of people, including the youth and women.

The senator, who was represented by his media aide, Mr Enitan Olukotun, said he had also provided grants to 1,250 market women, awarded bursary to 600 high institution students and given monthly support to over 2,500 vulnerable constituents, among other laudable achievements.

“We are going to sustain the tempo which is the hallmark of what I have been doing so far.

“We have not really leaving the organisers behind because most of them belong to youth demographics.

“I will sustain the the empowerment programme, training young minds and young entrepreneurs on how to survive and run businesses in the 21st century,” Abiru saidSource: NAN
