Gunmen on Friday, 25 April, 2024 invaded Maradun town, the headquarters of Maradun Local Government Area of Zamfara State killing two people and abducting several others.

An indigene of the area, Faruku Shehu said, the bandits who stormed the town early Friday shooting sporadically and ransacking houses.

Shehu said that although the number of the abducted persons was yet to be ascertained, the bandits could have abducted  30 persons.

Shehu, whose house was among the houses ransacked by the bandits, expressed dismay over the high level of insecurity in the town.

“It was to my hearing the bandits boggled my parlor’s door and were coming towards my inner room when I managed to hide.

“My wives and children followed another passage and ran away to hide somewhere”, he He said, just as  he also  expressed concern over the rampant attacks of the town lamenting that, “Even last week Friday similar attack was done in the town”.

Another resident, Hassan Ibrahim, lamented that the bandits were stationed at different locations with guns.

“When I heard their movement, I closed my door, crossed over the nearby wall, and ran for my dear life”.

He stressed that there was a need for the Minister of State Defense, Bello Mattawale, to intervene in the security situation of his country home to avert a further attack.

As at the time of filing in this report, Zamfara State Police Command has yet to comment on the sad development.

Similarly, the state Commissioner for Security, Cpt. Bala Mairiga refused to pick up the phone calls after several attempts.
