The House of Representatives will today hold an Investigative Public Hearing into the alleged misuse of government interventions and agricultural funding by various departments, agencies, schemes, and programmes operating outside the jurisdiction of the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.
This development follows the House’s adoption of a motion titled “The Alleged Misuse of Government Interventions and Agricultural Funding by Departments, Agencies, Schemes and Programmes Outside the Federal Ministry of Agriculture.”
The motion was debated and subsequently referred to the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security for in-depth investigation and legislative action.
According to a press statement issued by the Office of the House Spokesman, the hearing seeks to unravel facts surrounding the deployment and accountability of public funds earmarked for agricultural development. It also aims to ensure that government interventions targeted at revitalizing the agricultural sector are executed effectively and transparently.
The public hearing is scheduled to take place today, Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at 2:00 PM in Conference Hall 028, House of Representatives New Building, National Assembly Complex, Three Arms Zone, Abuja.
Stakeholders in the agricultural sector, members of the public, civil society organisations, and the media have been invited to attend the session, as the 10th Assembly reiterates its commitment to transparency, accountability, and good governance.
The statement was jointly signed by Rep. Chike John Okafor, Chairman of the House Committee on Nutrition and Food Security, and Rep. Akin Rotimi, Jr., Spokesman of the House of Representatives.
