Nigerian disc jockey and entrepreneur, Florence Otedola, popularly known as DJ Cuppy, has revealed that she receives marriage proposals every day, disclosing that her growing collection of academic certificates has become her humorous way of deflecting persistent questions about marriage from her grandmother.

Cuppy made the disclosure while speaking about her academic journey, career and philanthropic work in an interview with Marie Claire, published on Thursday, 6 August,2026.

The entertainer, known for her music career, has also built an impressive academic profile, earning degrees from New York University, the University of Oxford and King’s College London, with another qualification already in view.

Speaking about her decision to continue pursuing education, Cuppy jokingly linked her growing collection of certificates to her grandmother’s persistent questions about marriage.

“I call it avoidance of marriage. Every time my grandma asks, ‘Where’s your husband?’, I show her a new certificate,” she said.

She, however, disclosed that suitors are far from scarce in her life.

“I get marriage proposals every day. And I’m not even talking about fans. Everyone is apparently trying to help me when I have not asked to be helped,” she said.

Beyond music, Cuppy explained that her pursuit of knowledge is also tied to her desire to understand the industries she operates in.

“With entertainment, I have never just wanted to participate. I want to understand who controls what and learn as much about their processes as possible,” she said.

She also reflected on her relationship with her father, billionaire businessman Femi Otedola, and how her growing public profile has, at times, changed how people identify him. She recalled an incident in which her father was stopped at an airport by someone who recognised him as “Cuppy’s dad.”

“Recently, my dad told me that someone stopped him at the airport to take a picture because they recognised him as ‘Cuppy’s dad,'” she said, adding that the moment made her proud.

“It made me feel good because normally, I’m Femi’s daughter, but on that day, to that person, he was my dad,” she said.

Cuppy further spoke on her philanthropic work, drawing a distinction between charity and philanthropy. According to her, charity often involves giving, while philanthropy should focus on creating lasting solutions to social problems.

“Charity is just giving because you want to. Being a philanthropist, though, is about making a lasting difference. It’s about long-lasting results,” she explained.
