Famous Nigerian record producer and music executive, Michael Collins Ajereh, popularly known as Don Jazzy, has made public what inspired him to become a producer.
Appearing in a recent episode of the ‘On The Grind’ podcast, Jazzy disclosed that his love for music was what motivated his craft, just as he as he also about his proficiency in multiple musical instruments, especially the drum.
The Mavin Records boss revealed that he could even drum while having sex.
“I just went in [to production] and never looked back. I finished playing percussion, I moved to jazz drum. From the drum set, I moved the bass guitar. At some point, I started learning the piano,” he said.
“I started learning more instruments when I was in London and I realised that I wanted to be a producer. But originally, I liked playing drums and bass guitar…. I literally drum all the time. I do it during sex. I can even drum on a woman’s buttocks if I get the inspiration for a beat at that time.”
He also revealed that he once lived in the studio with with Altims and Baby Fresh for two years.
Don Jazzy began his career as a producer in the UK while working with JJC and the 419 Squad.
In 2004, he co-founded Mo’ Hits Records with D’banj and became the label’s in-house producer. He founded Mavin Records in 2012 after Mo’ Hits split and serves both as the label’s CEO and lead producer.
Don Jazzy was also an in-house producer for American rapper Kanye West’s GOOD Music from 2011 to 2013.
