The Chief Imam of Ijebuland, Sheikh Muftaudeen Ayanbadejo, has announced new regulations on dress code and conduct for worshippers attending Jumat prayers, prohibiting men with plaited hair and those wearing earrings from entering the mosque for the weekly congregational prayer.

The directive was reportedly announced during the Jumat service held on Friday, October 9, 2026, as part of efforts to promote discipline, decency and reverence within the mosque.

According to the announcement, men who plait their hair or wear earrings will no longer be permitted to enter the mosque for Jumat prayers once the new regulations take effect.

The Chief Imam stated that the directive would commence on Friday, October 16, 2026, giving worshippers time to familiarise themselves with the new rules and make the necessary adjustments before the implementation date.

In addition to the dress code restrictions, Sheikh Ayanbadejo warned worshippers against operating mobile phones during prayers.

He reportedly declared that any worshipper caught using a mobile phone while prayers are ongoing would have the device seized immediately.

The warning underscores the need for worshippers to remain attentive and avoid distractions during the sacred period of congregational worship.

The newly announced regulations are expected to generate discussions among members of the Muslim community, particularly regarding appropriate appearance, personal grooming and acceptable conduct within the mosque.

As the implementation date approaches, worshippers are expected to take note of the directives and comply with the regulations announced by the Chief Imam.

The new rules are scheduled to take effect on Friday, 16 October, 2026.
