A solemn atmosphere enveloped the Lagos State High Court in Ikeja on Wednesday, 3 December, 2025, as Mr. Segun Michael Abolaji was formally arraigned on grave charges involving the alleged sexual abuse of a nine-year-old girl.

The charge sheet detailed two serious counts against the defendant, stemming from incidents alleged to have occurred in the Ikorodu area of Lagos State.
Count One accuses Mr. Abolaji of the Defilement of a Child, a crime contrary to Section 137 of the Criminal Law, Cap C.17, Vol 3, Laws of Lagos State, 2015. The charge sheet specifies that the defendant had unlawful sexual intercourse with the minor between June and July 2024 at 5, Oremeji Street, Ishawo, Agric, Ikorodu.
Count Two escalates the matter, charging him with Sexual Assault by Penetration, an offence against Section 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015. The particulars of this charge allege that Mr. Abolaji sexually assaulted the minor by penetrating her anus with his penis during the same period.
When the charges were read in court, Mr. Abolaji entered a “Not Guilty” plea to both counts.
The prosecution informed the court of its intention to rely on the testimonies of five witnesses during the trial to substantiate its claims.
