The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele, on Thursday, August 13, 2026, joined the Ikorodu Divisional Muslim Community (IDIMCO) in a special prayer session for the peace, progress and prosperity of Nigeria.
The gathering, organized in partnership with the Lagos State Council of Chief Imams, brought together Muslim leaders, government representatives, community stakeholders and faithful from across the state to seek divine guidance and blessings for the nation.
The prayer session provided an opportunity for participants to reflect on the state of the nation and commit Nigeria, its leaders and citizens into the hands of Almighty Allah. Prayers were offered for peace, unity, economic prosperity, national stability and the overall wellbeing of Nigerians.
Speaking at the gathering, former Deputy Governor of Lagos State and Member of the Governor’s Advisory Council (GAC), Prince Abiodun Ogunleye, joined other dignitaries and Muslim leaders in emphasizing the importance of prayers, unity and collective responsibility in overcoming the challenges confronting the country.
Hon. Benson, who actively participated in the spiritual gathering, described prayers as an important means of seeking divine intervention in the affairs of the nation. He commended the Ikorodu Divisional Muslim Community for sustaining the tradition of praying for Nigeria and its leadership, describing the initiative as timely and significant.
The Chairman urged Muslims and residents of Imota LCDA to continue supporting government efforts aimed at building a peaceful and prosperous society. He emphasized the need for unity, mutual respect and peaceful coexistence among residents, irrespective of religious, political or social differences.
According to him, the progress of Nigeria requires the collective commitment of citizens, community leaders and governments at all levels. While government has a responsibility to provide good governance and create opportunities for development, he noted that citizens must equally contribute positively to the growth, peace and stability of their communities.
The gathering also featured prayers for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, the Lagos State Government under the leadership of Governor Babajide Olusola Sanwo-Olu, and other elected leaders at the federal, state and local government levels. Special prayers were offered for wisdom, good health, divine guidance and success for those entrusted with public responsibilities.
The Muslim community further prayed for an end to insecurity, hardship and other challenges confronting the nation, while seeking divine blessings upon families and communities across Nigeria. Participants also prayed for greater national unity and peaceful coexistence among Nigerians across ethnic and religious lines.
The special prayer session ended with renewed calls for continued prayers, unity and support for initiatives aimed at improving the lives of citizens. Hon. Benson’s participation underscored his administration’s commitment to engaging religious and community stakeholders while promoting peace, unity and collective development across Imota LCDA and the wider Ikorodu Division.
