The Chairman of Imota Local Council Development Area, Hon. Benson Sunday Ayodele-led administration has officially flagged off the renovation of the Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre, in a decisive move aimed at strengthening access to quality healthcare services for residents of the community and its environs. The initiative reflects the administration’s unwavering commitment to improving primary healthcare delivery and enhancing the overall wellbeing of the people.
Speaking on the commencement of the renovation project, Hon. Benson reiterated that healthcare remains a critical pillar of his administration’s “Hi-SEE” transformation agenda. He noted that the rehabilitation of the facility would significantly improve service delivery and provide a more conducive environment for both patients and healthcare workers.
The Chairman explained that the Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre has long served the community for years but had gradually fallen into a state requiring urgent intervention. He assured residents that the ongoing renovation would upgrade the facility to meet modern healthcare standards and adequately cater to the growing healthcare needs of the population.
According to him, the scope of the project includes comprehensive structural upgrades, Installation of reliable alternative power systems to guarantee 24-hour operations, improved water supply, enhanced sanitation facilities, and the provision of patient-friendly infrastructure. He added that the council is also putting measures in place to ensure proper maintenance of the centre upon completion.
Hon. Benson further emphasized that upon completion, the renovated healthcare centre would offer improved service reliability through uninterrupted power supply and enhanced amenities. He added that the project would increase access to quality healthcare, reduce the need for residents to travel long distant for medical attention, and strengthen preventive care, maternal health services, and emergency response — aligned with Lagos State’s healthcare objectives, and reflect the LCDA’s commitment to impactful projects that truly benefit the community.
In the same vein, the Supervisor for Works, Infrastructure, and Housing, Hon. Sanni Muftaudeen Adetoro, during his inspection of the ongoing renovation site, praised the council chairman for his proactive leadership and commitment to infrastructure development. He noted that the project is a testament to the administration’s dedication to improving the standard of living for residents, adding that the quality and pace of work so far reflect a strong determination to deliver within the stipulated timeframe.
Residents of Oriokuta and neighbouring communities have commended the initiative, describing it as both timely and impactful. Many expressed optimism that the renovation would reduce the need to travel long distances for basic medical care, especially for vulnerable groups such as children, pregnant women, and the elderly.
Healthcare personnel at the centre also welcomed the development, highlighting the challenges they have faced due to the deteriorating condition of the facility. They expressed confidence that the upgraded centre would enhance their capacity to deliver efficient and quality healthcare services.
It would be recalled that during a community needs assessment tour conducted on August 5, 2025, the complete renovation of the Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre was identified as a priority. The ongoing renovation project, therefore, fulfils a key promise of the administration to address critical gaps in the health sector, while also encouraging sustained collaboration between government and resident for long-term success.
The renovation of the Oriokuta Primary Healthcare Centre forms part of a broader strategy by the Benson-led administration to revamp essential infrastructure across Imota LCDA. As work progresses, residents remain hopeful that the project will be completed within schedule and serve as a model for future healthcare interventions within the community.
