July 27, 2025, marked a defining moment in the political history of Alimosho Local Government. On that day, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson earned the overwhelming trust and confidence of the people, emerging as Executive Chairman through broad-based support that transcended political affiliations, religious backgrounds, and social divides.
It was a remarkable demonstration of unity and collective aspiration, reflecting the people’s belief in his vision and capacity to lead. One year later, as the administration marks its first 365 days in office, the confidence reposed in the Chairman has been rewarded with purposeful governance, strategic leadership, and measurable progress across critical sectors of the local government.
A Vision Anchored on the W.I.S.E. Agenda; Unlike many public office holders who assume leadership without a clearly defined roadmap, Hon. Akinpelu Ibrahim Johnson came into office fully prepared. Years of planning culminated in the formulation of the W.I.S.E. Agenda—a comprehensive development framework centred on Well-being (Welfare), Innovation, Sustainability, and Economic Growth.
Guided by this agenda, the administration has pursued a deliberate and methodical approach to governance, focusing on sustainable development rather than short-term achievements. The result has been a governance model that prioritises people, strengthens institutions, and lays a solid foundation for long-term prosperity.
One of the administration’s most notable achievements has been the transformation of the local government workforce. Recognising that effective governance begins with motivated personnel, the Chairman has created a more conducive and professional working environment across departments.
Training programmes, seminars, workshops, and capacity-building initiatives have become regular features of the administration. More importantly, a new culture of inclusiveness and dialogue has replaced the traditional top-down approach to leadership. Workers are encouraged to contribute ideas, ask questions, and actively participate in decision-making processes. The administration has also ensured that workers’ welfare and entitlements remain a priority, reinforcing its commitment to a motivated and productive workforce.
The administration has equally revitalised relationships with traditional institutions, recognising their vital role in community development and social cohesion. Traditional rulers have received greater recognition and support, reinforcing their place as key stakeholders in governance. Similarly, Community Development Associations (CDAs) and Community Development Committees (CDCs) have been empowered and actively engaged in the development process, fostering stronger collaboration between government and communities.
A clean environment remains one of the administration’s defining priorities. Demonstrating its commitment to environmental sustainability, the local government procured two waste-compactor trucks to improve waste collection and disposal across the council area. The administration’s zero-tolerance stance on environmental abuse is further supported by enhanced monitoring and enforcement mechanisms aimed at maintaining cleanliness throughout Alimosho.
To strengthen security and safeguard lives and property, operational vehicles, including a Hilux van and minibuses, have been acquired to support security and environmental monitoring activities.
The Akinpelu administration has distinguished itself through action-oriented governance. Rather than making promises, it has focused on delivering tangible projects that directly impact residents.
Within its first year, several roads have been constructed and rehabilitated to improve mobility and connectivity. A new court facility has been built to support the administration of justice and facilitate more efficient judicial processes.
Government infrastructure has undergone extensive rehabilitation, while construction is ongoing on a modern legislative building designed to provide additional office accommodation and improve operational efficiency within the local government.
Recognising the importance of food security and economic empowerment, the administration has invested significantly in agriculture. The Chairman has maintained direct engagement with farmers, visiting farms and fostering partnerships aimed at increasing food production and strengthening the local agricultural value chain.
Through the Ounje Alimosho Programme, residents have benefited from the sale of food items at a 50 per cent subsidised rate, easing the burden of rising living costs. In addition, 500 residents received grants of ₦100,000 each to support and expand their businesses, creating opportunities for economic growth and financial stability at the grassroots level.
Education and technological advancement remain central pillars of the administration’s development agenda. Significant attention has been devoted to strengthening educational support systems and promoting digital transformation within the local government. This commitment is reflected in Alimosho’s emergence as one of the few local governments in Nigeria with a functional official website, enhancing transparency, accessibility, and citizen engagement.
Beyond technological advancement, the administration continues to provide financial assistance and social support to vulnerable residents through various intervention programmes aimed at improving livelihoods and reducing economic hardship.
In the healthcare sector, the administration has invested substantially in strengthening primary healthcare delivery. Primary Health Centres across the local government have continued to witness rehabilitation and improvement, while essential medical equipment has been procured to improve the quality and accessibility of healthcare services. These interventions reflect a broader commitment to ensuring that residents have access to efficient and reliable healthcare at the grassroots level.
The first 365 days of the Akinpelu administration have demonstrated what purposeful leadership can achieve when vision is matched with commitment and action. Across infrastructure, environmental management, healthcare, education, agriculture, workforce development, and economic empowerment, the administration has consistently prioritised the needs of the people.
As the local government prepares to unveil a comprehensive pictorial presentation of projects and achievements recorded within the past year, one thing remains evident: Alimosho is experiencing a new era of governance defined by innovation, accountability, inclusiveness, and sustainable development.
Indeed, these have been 365 purposeful days—a year that has renewed hope, inspired confidence, and laid the groundwork for a brighter future.
This is the New Alimosho. This is purposeful leadership in action.
