How could hugging of a minor be considered a punishable offence by death. This was not a judgment passed by any court of law but a reported case of criminal dispensation of jungle justice that took place at Mowe in Ogun State.
The victim, a 38-year-old university degree holder in Guidance and Counselling, Mike Oje, met his untimely death just for playing and hugging his neighbour’s three-year-old child.
Termed as ‘rough play’, the enraged minor’s father, identified as Edebiri Temitope, 43, threw caution to the wind, picked a bamboo stick, and repeatedly struck the victim until he collapsed and died.
After committing the dastardly act, the suspect reportedly took to his heels and went into hiding with his family.
Confirming the development, the Ogun State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed that the suspect, “who was earlier reported to be at large, has been arrested in connection with the death of Oje Michael Eje.”
He further said that the suspect has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID), Eleweran in Abeokuta, for further investigation.
