The police in Rivers State have arrested a serving member of the House of Representatives with over US$500,000 in his possession.
Hon. Chinyere Igwe, a People’s Democratic Party (PDP) member representing Port Harcourt Federal Constituency II, was arrested in the early hours of Friday, 24 February, 2023, in Port Harcourt.
He was caught with over Five Hundred Thousand US Dollars ($500,000.00) which he claimed was given to him by his party’s Presidential Candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar to ensure his electoral success in Rivers State.
The police also recovered the sharing formula from him.
From the document recovered from him, they planned to give dollars to Security and INEC to compromise them during the election.
The Rep member is currently in the custody of the police undergoing interrogation.
