The Speaker of the Kebbi State House of Assembly, Muhammad Usman Zuru, is dead, marking a significant loss to the state’s legislative arm.

Zuru died on the night of Monday, 6 April, 2026 in a hospital in Egypt, where he had been receiving treatment for an undisclosed illness, although details surrounding his condition were not made public at the time of filing this report.

Sources close to the Kebbi State Government confirmed the development, noting that the late lawmaker had been undergoing medical care abroad prior to his death.

Until his passing, Zuru represented Zuru State Constituency in the state assembly and was widely regarded as a key figure in the legislature, playing a central role in parliamentary activities and governance within the state.

Reacting to the development, an aide to the Governor on Communication and Strategy, Idris Zuru, described the incident as both shocking and painful.

“The death of the Speaker, Rt. Hon. Muhammad Usman Zuru, came to us as a rude shock. It is a painful loss not only to Kebbi State but to the entire nation,” he said.

He added that the government was still collating full details surrounding the circumstances of the lawmaker’s death. “We are still gathering full details surrounding his passing. The government will make an official statement and announce burial arrangements in consultation with the family,” he stated.

Meanwhile, further announcements regarding funeral arrangements are expected from the Kebbi State Government and the family, as tributes are anticipated to pour in for the late Speaker
