The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has expelled immediate past Chairman of Agege Local Government, Chief Ganiyu Kolawole Egunjobi and Mr Azeez ‘Ninalowo’ Yusuf over alleged anti-party activities and disloyalty, reports thegazellenews.com
Thegazellenews.com reports further that their expulsion was due to their decision to obtain tickets from another political party after losing the APC’s 2026 House of Assembly primaries.
The two former APC members contested the party’s nomination for Agege State Constituency I and II respectively but failed to secure the tickets before subsequently seeking the tickets of another political party in the same electoral cycle.
The Lagos APC announced their expulsion in a statement signed by its State Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, on Wednesday, 23 September, 2026.
The party said their decision to seek alternative platforms after losing its internal contests amounted to a repudiation of their obligations as members and violated its rules on loyalty and discipline.
It also dismissed their purported resignations from the APC as a belated attempt to avoid the consequences of their actions, maintaining that party membership could not be treated as a temporary platform for pursuing political ambitions.
According to the APC, members are free to seek elective positions but must pursue their ambitions within the framework of the party’s constitution and applicable electoral laws.
It said members who lose internal contests were expected to accept the outcome or pursue legitimate avenues of redress provided by the party and the law, rather than seek another platform to contest against the party within the same electoral cycle.
The party said it had invoked Article 9(5)(II) of the APC Constitution, as amended in 2022, in taking disciplinary action against Egunjobi and Yusuf.
The Lagos APC also linked the action to the 2026 electoral framework, noting that the Independent National Electoral Commission had emphasised compliance by political parties and political actors with the Electoral Act 2026 and the commission’s regulations governing the electoral process.
The party subsequently declared that Egunjobi and Yusuf were no longer members of the APC and had no authority to speak for, represent or negotiate on behalf of the Lagos State chapter or the national party.
It also warned that neither individual was authorised to transact any business with any person, organisation or institution in the name of the APC.
The party urged its members, supporters, stakeholders and the general public to take note of the change in their status and refrain from dealing with either of them as representatives or authorised agents of the APC.
The Lagos APC said the action reflected its commitment to internal democracy, discipline, loyalty and adherence to its rules.
It maintained that while members had the right to contest party primaries, losing a nomination process did not confer the right to undermine the party by seeking an alternative platform during the same electoral cycle.
“The APC is a Party of rules. Its tickets are contested, its decisions are respected, and its integrity will be protected,” the statement said.
The party said it would continue to take steps to preserve its discipline, cohesion and credibility ahead of the forthcoming elections.
