The Lagos State Government will commence its 2026 Capacity Building Workshop for officers in the Unified Local Government Service, as part of efforts to strengthen public service delivery and improve governance at the grassroots.
The intensive training programme, organised by the Lagos State Office of Local Government Establishments and Training, is scheduled to run from Monday, 3 August, to Tuesday 15 September, 2026, at the Office of Local Government Establishments and Training School, according to a statement issued on Sunday, 2 August, 2026.
The Permanent Secretary of the Office, Ms Toyin Ogunlana, who announced the commencement of the programme, disclosed that the workshop is designed for officers in the senior and management cadres of the Unified Local Government Service, with a focus on enhancing professional competence, leadership capacity, technical expertise, and managerial skills.
She stated, “The intensive training programme scheduled to be held at the Training School of the Office of Local Government Establishments and Training, from Monday, 3rd August to Tuesday, 15th September, 2026, is designed for officers in the senior and management categories of the Unified Local Government Service.”
According to the statement, the workshop forms part of the state’s continuous investment in human capital development within the local government system, a move that recognises that effective governance depends on a skilled, innovative, and responsive workforce.
The programme, the government explained, is expected to expose participants to contemporary public administration practices, leadership development, policy implementation, service delivery strategies, and other areas considered essential to improving local government performance.
Speaking further, Ogunlana explained that the objective of the workshop is to equip officers with the knowledge and competencies required to meet the evolving demands of governance and public administration.
She added, “The workshop aims to strengthen participants’ professional knowledge, leadership capacity, technical skills, and managerial competencies, equipping them to deliver more efficient, innovative, and responsive public service across the Local Government Service.”
The government indicated that the training is expected to enhance officers’ competence, improve workplace performance, promote professional excellence, and strengthen effective service delivery to residents across the state’s 20 local government and 37 local council development areas.
The Lagos State Government has consistently organised capacity-building programmes for public servants as part of broader public sector reforms aimed at improving institutional efficiency, accountability, and the quality of services delivered to residents.
The latest workshop is expected to further reinforce those efforts by equiping local government officers with practical skills to respond more effectively to governance challenges at the grassroots level.
