Lagos Govt Arrests Man For Allegedly Vandalising Road Barrier

A suspect has arrested by the Lagos State Government for allegedly vandalising a concrete barrier installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along the Ikorodu Road, reports thegazellenews.com.

The arrest forms part of ongoing efforts by the state government to safeguard public infrastructure against acts of vandalism.

This development also comes amid repeated concerns over the removal of metal components from public structures across the state, with authorities maintaining that such acts compromise safety and waste public resources invested in infrastructure.

The state Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, who made disclosure though  a post on  his official X  handle on Saturday, 8 August, 2026, that the arrest followed monitoring and enforcement operations carried out the previous day.

According to Wahab, the suspect was found deliberately removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements and other critical structural components that contribute to the stability and effectiveness of the concrete barrier.

“During monitoring and enforcement operations yesterday, our team apprehended a suspect at Kosofe Bus Stop, Mile 12, along the Ikorodu Road, for vandalising a concrete barrier installed to prevent pedestrians from crossing the expressway at unauthorised points. 

The suspect was found deliberately removing iron rods, cables, steel reinforcements, and other critical structural components that contribute to the stability and effectiveness of the concrete barrier.

“The suspect has been arrested and will be prosecuted in accordance with the law. This enforcement action underscores the Lagos State Government’s commitment to protecting public infrastructure and ensuring the safety of all road users and residents, ”  the Commissioner wrote.
