Gymnastics in Lagos State is set for a significant revitalisation as the Lagos State Sports Commission (LSSC) strengthens its synergy with private stakeholders to drive talent growth, grassroots excellence, and podium success.
This renewed commitment was the focal point of a strategic meeting held recently, where the Director General of the Lagos State Sports Commission, Mr. Lekan Fatodu, received Mrs. Adeyoyinsola Akpose, Co-convener of the foremost gymnastics competition, the Gymfest Championships, and discussed strengthening collaboration between the public and private sectors to accelerate gymnastics development in Lagos State, particularly through structured talent identification, coaching capacity building, and sustainable competition platforms that expose young athletes to high-performance pathways.

Speaking during the engagement, Fatodu commended the consistency and impact of Teetumblers Gymnastics and the Gymfest Championships in expanding access to gymnastics and nurturing young talent across the state.
“Gymnastics is one of the sports with immense potential for early talent discovery and long-term excellence, and what Teetumblers and the Gymfest Championships have built over the years aligns perfectly with our vision,” Fatodu said.

“The Commission’s renewed support for multiple sporting disciplines, including gymnastics, is firmly anchored on the steadfast backing we have graciously received from Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, whose commitment to sports development continues to create the enabling environment for growth.”
In her remarks, Mrs. Akpose expressed appreciation to the Lagos State Sports Commission for its openness and strategic support, noting that institutional backing is critical to scaling gymnastics development and sustaining high-quality competitions like Gymfest.
