Lagos High Court Adjourns Trial Of Dr. Olaleye Accused Of Sexually-assaulting Wife’s Niece To March 16

At the continuation of the trial of the medical Doctor, accused of defiling his wife’s niece, Dr Olufemi Olaleye  on Friday, 10 February, 2023, in Lagos, Justice Ramon Oshodi of the Sexual Offences Court in Ikeja has fixed Thursday, 16 March, 2023 for the continuation of the  trial 

It will be recalled that Dr Olaleye who is the Medical Director of Optimal Cancer Care Foundation in Surulere area of the state was accused of sleeping with his wife’s 16 years old niece

The judge adjourned the trial after the Lagos State Government closed its case against the defendant on Friday, 10 February, 2023.

At the proceeding, Director of Public Prosecution, Dr. Babajide Martins, informed the court that the prosecution was ready to close its case after six witnesses had testified.

Meanwhile, counsel to the defendant, Mr. Babatunde Ogala (SAN) informed the court that the defence had filed a no-case submission.

The trial judge closed the prosecution’s case and adjourned until Thursday, 16 March, 2023 for adoption of written addresses on the no-case submission.

Recall that Olaleye is standing trial on a two-count charge of defilement and sexual assault by penetration.

He had denied the charges at his arraignment in court.

An Investigative Police Officer, IPO, Inspector Abe Leonard, had on January 26, gave evidence against the defendant while a forensic expert at the Mirabel Centre, Lagos, Mrs. Oyebimpe Akinbunmi, and one Inspector Esther Igbineweka testified against the medical director on January 4.

Mrs. Olabisi Ajayi-Kayode, a child forensic specialist with the Cece Yara Foundation, on January 3, also gave evidence against the defendant.

The alleged survivor (names withheld) on December 21, 2022, reportedly testified behind closed-door at the trial as provided for in the 1999 Constitution and the Administration of Criminal Justice Act.

The defendant’s wife, Mrs. Aderemi Fagbemi-Olaleye, had on December 19, 2022, told the court that her husband was diagnosed with sex addiction during her evidence before the trial judge.

The alleged offences contravene Sections 137 and 261 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
