The Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) has warned troublemakers to steer clear of election venues during the Saturday, 12 July, 2025, local government elections in the state, reports thegazellenews.com.
Speaking during a press conference in Lagos on Thursday, 10 July, 2025, to brief the media on the Commission’s preparation for a successful outing, the LASIEC Chairman, Justice (rtd) Bolanle Okikiolu-Ighile warned that the commission will not allow any form of malpractices hence troublemakers should stay away as security agents will be fully on ground to monitor the exercise.
Justice Okikiolu-Ighile reaffirmed the unwavering commitments to deliver free, fair and credible election adding adequate security has been mapped out to protect lives and property before, during and after the exercise.
She disclosed further that 15 out of 19 registered political parties will take part in the poll, noting that from the over 7 million registered voters in the state, 6, 214, 970 collected their PVCs to cast their ballots in 13,325 polling units spread across the state.
“In all, 57 elected Chairmen and 376 elected Councillors will emerge at the end of voting which has been fixed to take place between 8am and 3pm on Saturday, 12 July, 2025,” the LASIEC Chairman said.
She explained that LASIEC has continually engaged with all stakeholders including political parties, CSO, religious bodies, People With Disabilities, market leaders, media, security and held advocacy meetings to ensure inclusivity in the exercise.
LASIEC, the Chairman noted visited, its area offices in all the Local Government Areas and LCDAs where where its officials carried out their duties towards a seamless electoral process in conformity with the laws and guidelines.
She said that the body took comprehensive steps in line with mandate to ensure credible electoral process while stakeholders meeting held in five divisions of the state: Ikeja, Badagry, Ikorodu, Lagos Island and Epe.
On improving the manpower, the retired Justice explained that electoral officers and adhoc staff went through several training programmes adding that they have learnt from some mistakes in the past to do a perfect job this time.
She reassured that all
electoral materials are in place and some already deployed to various polling units except for the sensitive ones.
She disclosed that the voting centres are more closer now to reduce the stress residents go through on election day as people with disabilities, pregnant women, nursing mothers and the aged will be given priority.
Earlier, the LASIEC Commissioner for Media and Publicity, Akin Oluwo described the Media as a major stakeholder adding the forum was necessary to highlight the state of preparedness for the exercise.
He appealed that reportage during the exercise should be handled professionally adding that the media could get in touch with LASIEC officials when necessary to guard against report that can instigate violence.
