The Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) has further strengthened its commitment to the economic empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) with the hosting of a business empowerment programme tagged “Refinancing of Businesses Owned by PWDs.”
The programme was held on Tuesday, 3 February, 2026, at the Agency’s premises.

Speaking on behalf of the General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, the Deputy Director, Finance and Accounts, Dr. Kasunmu Taofikat Olatunbosun, urged beneficiaries to make prudent use of the support provided, noting that the Lagos State Government, through LASODA, remains committed to supporting PWDs in developing and sustaining viable businesses.
Dr. Kasunmu stated that the initiative aligns with LASODA’s mandate to help Persons with Disabilities harness their God-given potentials and achieve economic independence.
According to her, the Agency aims to ensure that PWDs in business enjoy more comfortable, productive, and fulfilling lives through their entrepreneurial efforts.
She emphasised that the programme focuses on refinancing PWDs who are already engaged in business activities.
She added that beneficiaries were thoroughly screened and carefully selected to ensure transparency and impact.
“This intervention was designed to rebuild and strengthen existing businesses. The support provided today will significantly enhance business growth and long-term sustainability,” she added.
She disclosed that 80 Persons with Disabilities are benefiting from the refinancing scheme expressing appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu of Lagos State for his continued support of disability-focused empowerment initiatives.
She assured that fairness and inclusion would continue to guide LASODA’s efforts to help beneficiaries expand their businesses and attain higher levels of success.
Beneficiaries also commended the initiative.
Mrs. Ughonu Ify Matilda, of the Association for Intellectual and Developmental Disability of Nigeria (AIDDN), representing a child with intellectual disability, described the programme as timely and impactful. She highlighted the demanding nature of caring for children with intellectual and developmental disabilities and called for sustained government support through LASODA.
Another beneficiary, Mr. Emmanuel Jeremiah, a member of the physical disability cluster, who is a cobbler and bag maker, thanked LASODA for the opportunity. He noted that such programmes are critical to boosting small businesses owned by PWDs, adding that many empowerment initiatives often exclude Persons with Disabilities.
He, therefore, called for the continuous inclusion of PWDs in all government empowerment programmes.
