The Human Rights Monitoring Agenda (HURMA Global Resource Initiative) has called on the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) to expedite its investigation into alleged financial misconduct involving the Lagos State University of Science and Technology (LASUSTECH).
In a petition submitted to the EFCC and signed by its Executive Director, Comrade Buna Olaitan Isiak, HURMA noted that the appeal falls under the Federal Government’s Whistle-blowing Policy—an anti-corruption initiative encouraging citizens to report fraud, bribery, embezzlement, and other financial crimes.
“We are urging the EFCC to thoroughly investigate the alleged large-scale fraud reportedly perpetrated by the current Vice Chancellor of LASUSTECH, Professor Olumuyiwa Odusanya, in alleged collusion with the university’s Procurement Officer and Auditor,” Isiak stated. “This centers on the misappropriation of N2 billion allocated by the Lagos State Government for departmental accreditations—funds that may have been embezzled in violation of the Lagos State Public Procurement Law, 2021.”
According to documents made available to HURMA, the Vice Chancellor was expected to collaborate with the university’s Procurement Department to ensure compliance with procurement regulations. However, HURMA alleges that due process was deliberately bypassed, with contracts awarded directly to contractors handpicked by the Vice Chancellor—many of which, the group claims, were phantom projects.
Isiak described the situation as “alarming,” citing inflated contract values intended to generate kickbacks for those involved. “For example, a contract initially valued at N20 million was allegedly increased to N50 million to accommodate corrupt interests. This pattern of inflation and collusion reportedly resulted in the looting of over N800 million from the university’s coffers,” he said.
HURMA is urging the EFCC to act promptly to ensure transparency, accountability, and justice in the matter.
