Ahead of the crucial Saturday, July 12, Local Government Elections, Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu; his deputy, Dr. Obafemi Hamzat; and chieftains of the All Progressives Congress, APC, have expressed confidence to defeat opponents and retain seats across the 20 Local Government Areas, LGAs and 37 Local Council Development Areas, LCDAs.
Sanwo-Olu, however, urged the electorate to come out en-masse and vote massively for the party’s candidates in-order to sustain the ongoing development at the grassroots in particular and the state in general.
Sanwo-Olu and others made the call on Tuesday, 8 July, 2025, while addressing party faithful at the Lagos Central Senatorial District Mega Rally, held at Mobolaji Johnson Arena, (formerly Onikan Stadium), Lagos Island.
The Governor, who was represented by his Deputy, Dr Kadir Obafemi Hamzat, at the event which attracted a mammoth crowd amid slight rainfall, stressed that the Local Government election is important for the continuity and further development in the state.
He boasted that APC has done so well at all both the Federal and State levels of government, providing infrastructure and touching the lives of citizens through various people-oriented programmes, which the party faithful should showcase and be proud to share with the citizens as they canvass for votes at the nooks and cranny of the state.
According to Sanwo-Olu, “We have a lot of projects, we are building roads, we are building hospitals, we are building schools. So, we are a party of the people. We are doing well. Let’s go out and support our candidates as well as energize our base.
“While I am confident of maximum victory, I implore you all to ensure that the party wins across the entire 20 LGs and 37 LCDAs. Go everywhere and ensure that you do the right thing, as we are the only party in the country that is doing the right thing for the citizens.”
Speaking further, the Governor assured that the party will continue to do well for the State, as President Bola Tinubu has done since he emerged as President.
He added that the President has engaged in fundamental projects that future generations will benefit from.
Earlier, state Chairman of the party, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, enjoined party members to encourage their neighbours, friends, relatives, among others, to get the Permanent Voters Cards and come out on the day of the election and vote for APC.
Describing the APC as the right party for the people, Ojelabi urged Nigerians to shun and ignore the ‘enemies of progress’ who are only after power without the intention of delivering on their mandates.
“We can all see the development projects recorded in the state which cannot be compared to any other state as well as the center. The different projects, infrastructure put in place as schools, health centers, and bridges are all in places of the state,” he stated.
Ojelabi, assured residents and electorate that the incoming chairmen will surpass the achievements of previous administrations by the grace of God.
He also commended the President for giving the state the additional 37 LCDAs, as it has continued to develop Lagos.
Ojelabi also called on party members to complement the effort of the party by making sure that they embark on a door-to-door campaign, selling the party’s candidates to the people to ward off possible voter apathy during the exercise, “it’s not the time to play soccer and watch television at home.
“APC will use your mandate as an investment to improve education, health, infrastructure, living standards, and prosperity at the grassroots level by voting for APC candidates.”
Recall that APC had earlier organised similar mega rallies at some divisions of West Senatorial before the Central District, with last mega rally slated for East Senatorial District.
