Afrobeats singer Mayorkun returned to the Lagos stage on Sunday, 23 August, 2026 delivering a crowd-pleasing performance at the Lagos Mainland Block Party held at Club Mainland, Adeniran Ogunsanya Street, Lagos, reconnecting with his home audience in a night that underscored his enduring pull with Nigerian music lovers.
The singer, born Adewale Emmanuel, arrived on stage in a black jacket and received a warm reception from the crowd, opening his set with a selection of his popular songs before performing his trending collaboration with Davido and FOLA, “B4 B4” a song that has attracted significant attention since its release and marked another musical reunion between Mayorkun and his former label boss, years after the singer left Davido Music Worldwide to pursue his career independently.
He also performed “The Best”, his earlier collaboration with Davido, alongside crowd favourites “Geng” and other records from his catalogue, with the audience singing along to familiar lyrics throughout the set.
Addressing the crowd, Mayorkun said he was excited to return to the Lagos stage and reconnect with his fans.
“It feels good to be back and to see the love and energy from the people who have supported me,” he said.
His performance was one of the highlights of the event, which also featured sets from singer Terry Apala and indigenous rapper Reminisce, popularly known as Alaga Ibile.
Mayorkun’s journey to the Lagos Mainland Block Party stage is one built on an unconventional beginning.
He left the banking sector to pursue music, having developed an interest in it from an early age.
His major breakthrough came in 2016 when Davido discovered a video of him singing a cover of one of his songs and, impressed by what he heard, signed him to Davido Music Worldwide.
His debut single “Eleko”, released in 2016, quickly became a hit and established him as one of the promising new voices in Nigerian pop music.
He followed it with “Yawa”, “Mama”, “Sade” and “Geng”, further consolidating his position in the industry. In 2018, he released his debut studio album, The Mayor of Lagos, featuring collaborations with Davido, Sarkodie, Patoranking and D’banj ; a project that cemented his reputation as one of the leading artistes of his generation.
After departing DMW, Mayorkun continued to build his career independently, releasing new music and performing at major events in Nigeria and abroad.
His appearance at the Lagos Mainland Block Party gave him the platform to showcase both his catalogue and his latest material to the city that first embraced him and Sunday night’s reception confirmed the affection remains firmly intact.
